  12. Dorothy was born in Chicago, Illinois, but
  13. grew up in Riverside, Connecticut. She
  14. started skating at age 8. She won her first of
  15. three straight national titles in 1974. Dorothy
  16. twice placed second at the world champion-
  17. ships, but by the time of the 1976 Winter
  18. Olympics, she still had never won an
  19. international skating title!
