- In 1976, Dorothy Hamill
- was unbeatable in
- womenΓÇÖs figure skating.
- She won the U.S.
- championship, the world
- championship, and an Olympic gold medal.
- But what Dorothy may always be remembered
- for is her hair! Her short dark hair, cut in a
- style called a ΓÇ£wedge," was copied by girls all
- over the world.
-
- Dorothy was born in Chicago, Illinois, but
- grew up in Riverside, Connecticut. She
- started skating at age 8. She won her first of
- three straight national titles in 1974. Dorothy
- twice placed second at the world champion-
- ships, but by the time of the 1976 Winter
- Olympics, she still had never won an
- international skating title!
